The Film and TV Charity

After joining the Cinema & Television Benevolent Fund in 2018 to support the resuscitation of a fundraising gala, I played a key role in the organisation’s transformation into a forward-looking and award-winning charity.

  • Worked closely with agencies including Fawnbrake Collective on the repositioning of the charity as “for life behind the scenes”, including helping to facilitate creative workshops.

  • Supported the production of deliverables including contributing to the script for a short film directed by Tim Pope that was watched more than 2 million times, press and social outreach plans, brand roll-out, and paid media planning by Craft.

  • Close working with researchers and the Work Foundation to deliver a significant mental health survey - the Looking Glass, and publication of the findings.

  • Managed brand photography commission, with a 2-day shoot at Pinewood Studios and Viacom.

  • Staying on as Communications Manager, conducted all initial media outreach to re-engage trade and consumer press in the new direction of the charity, and managed PR and agencies, achieving more than 450 pieces of media coverage from 2019 - 2021.

  • Developed messaging and campaign approach to rapidly launch a Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund.

  • Created a collaboration with Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm’s VFX and animation studio, on an eye-catching creative project responding to the theme of bullying in the UK film, TV and cinema industry as part of a campaign to launch services to support workers in the industry.

Working in the film industry, you’re always aware of the highs and the lows. The film we have created hopes to highlight and dramatise this, bringing to life the struggle that people encounter when trying to ‘break’ into the industry and posing the question – but at what personal cost? It was a delight to work with the film’s writer Julian Borra, lead actor Alex Reece, and voice over Adrian Lester OBE. The soundtrack ‘The Kiss’ was kindly donated by The Cure, a band I have worked with since 1981.
